Inspire Girls - Baptisms @ Hazelbrook Camp

With joyful hearts we invite the inspire girls to join in celebrating the beautiful occasion of being baptized. Celebrating the moment of faith, love and commitment to following Jesus.

What is Baptism

“Baptism is a special ceremony for Christians where water is used to show someone’s decision to follow Jesus. It’s a way to say, ‘I’m starting fresh, leaving behind old mistakes, and walking in faith in my life.’ Baptism is a public declaration of faith to show the internal change in an external display through water saying, “I’m choosing to live out my faith.”

Why Baptism

1. Spiritual Cleansing and Renewal: The water symbolizes washing away negative aspects of one’s past, representing a fresh start with God. It’s seen as a way to connect with God in a public way before family and friends.
2. Public Commitment to Faith: Baptism is a visible declaration of choosing to follow Jesus and live by Christian values. It’s like making a vow, showing others—family, friends, or the church—that you’re serious about your faith.
3. Obedience to Jesus’ Example: Christians believe Jesus was baptized (as described in the Bible, e.g., Matthew 3:13-17), and he instructed his followers to baptize others (Matthew 28:19-20). For many, it’s a way to follow his example and teachings.

How we Baptise

1. Core Elements:
Water: Water is the central symbol, representing purification and new life. We baptise with immersion (fully submerged in water)

Words: Our spiritual Mentor/ pastor or designated person typically says a specific phrase, such as, “I baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit” (based on Matthew 28:19 in the Bible).

Setting: Baptism usually occurs in a church, but it can happen in natural bodies of water (rivers, lakes) or even homes, depending on the tradition or circumstances. We baptise at our camp in a pool.

2. Common Steps:
Preparation: The person being baptized may attend online classes, mentoring to understand the meaning of Baptism and to answer any questions.

Ceremony: We hold a personalised ceremony for each participant before friends and family at camp.
• The candidate stands or is held near a baptismal font, pool, or body of water.
• The officiant ( Spiritual Mentor/pastor, or mentor) prays, often invoking God’s blessing.
• Water is applied via immersion
• The officiant declares the baptismal formula, affirming the person’s entry into the Christian faith.
• Community Involvement: The congregation may pray, sing, or welcome the baptized person, emphasizing their inclusion in the faith community.
